Week 10(games played Nov. 7)

Both winners for Week 10 are from Dr. Phillips High School.  This is in recognition of their huge win over Boone High School.  Boone went into the game ranked #1 in the state for 6A schools and Dr. Phillips won 42-27.  The two players we are honoring are Quarterback Nico Ranieri on offense and Victor Gray on defense.

Nico Ranieri—The senior quarterback had 377 yards passing, completing 20 of 28 passes.  He threw 5 touchdown passes and ran for a 6th touchdown.  His touchdown passes went for 61 yards, 51 yards, 47 yards, 14 yards and 13 yards.  Dr. Phillips moved from 10th in the state to 5th in the state after the win and are the district champions.  Nico has broken numerous passing records this year and threw for his 377 yards against a Boone team that had given up only 133 yards per game of total offense.

Victor Gray---Vic led the way on defense and had 11 total tackles and 6 confirmed sacks.  He is a defensive lineman and is 6-3 and 235 pounds.  His tackles and sacks helped contain the potent Boone offense.  Vic also played offensive tackle for 12 to 15 snaps so he helped provide protection for Nico throwing the ball.  He is also the punter but with Dr. Phillips scoring 42 points he didn’t have to do much of that, but he did have to cover a lot of kickoffs, another of his strengths.  The head coach for DP is Dale Salapa.

Week 9 (games played October 31)

Offensive Player of the Week---Week 9

David Alls, Pine Castle Christian Academy---running back and utility player who also plays wide receiver, some quarterback, free safety on defense, runs back kickoffs and punts and also is the team’s punter.  David wins the Week 9 award for his performance in the team’s 27-21 victory over Orangewood.  David rushed the ball 10 times for 187 yards, an average of 18.7 yards per carry.  He opened the scoring with a 76-yard TD run in the first quarter and followed that with a 55-yard TD run in the 2nd quarter.  He sealed the victory with an interception in the 4th quarter to clinch the 27-21 win.  David also had a 95-yard kickoff return called back.  David is a senior and for the season has a punting average of more than 40 yards per punt.  His head coach is David Langdon.

Defensive Player of the Week—Week 9

Brad Sweatt—Edgewater High School—Brad is a senior linebacker and he led the Eagles on defense in Week 9 on the way to a 28-7 win over University.  Brad had 12 tackles to lead the way. He is a 3-year starter for Edgewater and one of the team captains.  He also has a weighted GPA of 4.1.  Coach Bill Gierke reported to us that Brad is a tremendous player and leader both on and off the field.

Offensive Player of the Week—Rahfee McClee—Week 8

Rahfee McClee---Timber Creek running back—Rahfee had a career night and set several records in a thrilling win by Timber Creek over Evans.  Timber Creek won the game 17-14 with a 35-yard field goal with 12 seconds left in the game.  The incredible running of Rahfee McClee accounted for both Timber Creek touchdowns and all but 49 yards of the total offense for the entire night for Timber Creek.  Rahfee carried the ball an amazing 47 times for 275 yards.  The 47 carries set a Timber Creek school record and it is believed to be the most carries ever in one game in the Metro Conference.  It also was the most carries by any running back in Central Florida in one game since 1996.  Timber Creek is coached by Jimmy Buckridge.

Defensive Player of the Week—Austen Jacks—Week 8

Austen Jacks—Winter Park defensive end—Austen led the Winter Park High School defense in a 28-6 win over University High School.  Austen had a blocked punt and a fumble recovery to go along with 9 tackles and 2 sacks.  His coach, Craig Russell, told us that Austen had the most complete game and led the way to holding University to only 6 points.  Austen also played tight end on offense and was the team’s punter.  He had 5 punts on the night, with one going 67 yards, 3 being kicked inside the 20, and his average punt for the night was just over 46 yards.  Through Week 8 Austen had recorded a total of 62 tackles and 9 sacks.  He is a team captain

Offensive Player of the Week—Angelo Warner—Week 7

Angelo Warner—Jones High School quarterback—Angelo Warner led Jones to a thrilling 36-35 overtime victory over Bishop Moore High School right here at the Citrus Bowl two weeks ago.  He was selected offensive player of the week because of his amazing performance down the stretch including a quarterback keeper on a 2-point conversion in overtime to win the game by one point.  Before that, Jones had fallen behind 28-20  in the 4th quarter but Angelo Warner led a final drive and threw an 18-yard TD pass with one minute left in the game to cut the lead to 28-26, then Angelo threw a pass for the 2-point conversion to tie the score at 28.  In overtime, Bishop Moore scored first to go up 35-28, then Angelo swept around the left side from 10 yards out to make it 35-34.  Head Coach Kenard Lang opted to go for 2 and the win and Angelo, only a sophomore, delivered with a scramble around the right side and a final dive into the end zone with tacklers holding onto him for the one-point overtime victory.

Defensive Player of the Week—Wyman Jackson—Week 7

Wyman Jackson (not pictured.Winter Springs coach accepting award in his place) — Winter Springs High School defensive lineman—Wyman wins this award for his play two weeks ago in a 23-3 victory by Winter Springs over Lyman.  The defense gave up a field goal in the first half and then shut out Lyman in the second half.  Wyman forced a fumble, made a tackle for a safety, had one sack and was in on 9 total tackles.  Wyman played with a cast on his hand and through Week 7 had played in 5 games with a broken hand.  His head coach, Mike Kintz, reported to us that Wyman is most deserving of this award and has developed into one of the leaders on the team, which now has a 6-2 record.
